Saint Maybe

Okay, so VERY different from Sweep. This book is one of those books where it's really sad and almost makes your heart break because it takes place over a long span of time and you're watching the characters slowly deteriorate. Make any sense? Not really? Read One Hundred Years of Solitude. (If you really want to check that book out, click here: http://www.amazon.com/Hundred-Years-Solitude-Oprahs-Book/dp/B0006V4LLW/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1246373517&sr=8-5)
But this book was pretty good still.
Let me give a little detail: There's this dude, Ian, and he's about 19, and his brother just got married to a lady (Lucy) who was previously married and has two kids. She has a another baby girl shortly after they get married, too soon to be Ian's brother's baby, but Lucy's passing it off as premature. One night, Ian babysits for Lucy's kids and she doesn't come home, so his brother drives him home drunk. He tells his brother the hunch he has that Lucy's cheating on him and his brother commits suicide by driving into a wall when Ian gets out of the car. Shortly after, Lucy overdoses on sleeping pills. Ian is trying to figure out how to live with the guilt of indirectly killing two people when he finds the Church of the Second Chance. This is my favorite part of the book right here...
"So anyhow," he (Ian) said, "that's why I asked for that prayer. And I honestly believe it might have worked. Oh, it's not like I got an answer in plain English, of course, but... don't you think? Don't you think I'm forgiven?"
"Goodness, no," Reverend Emmett said briskly.
Ian's mouth fell open. He wondered if he had misunderstood. He said, "I'm not forgiven?"
"Oh, no."
(pg. 122)
Yep, it was a bit of a thick read, but a good book in the end.

"Look At Us. Two Kick-Butt Witches Falling To Pieces."

Just finished Awakening, the fifth book in the Sweep series. The title above is a quote that pretty much sums up the book, from page 181. This one is really good!!!!!
Actually, it was good and bad. Someone else was making dark magick... Guess who? David. He did it to save Practical Magick, but still, Hunter had to strip him of his powers, which was really depressing.
Speaking of Hunter... It's official, he and Morgan are in love! In his journal entries at the beginning of each chapter (in this book, we read his Book of Shadows and his father's entries too), he keeps talking about how he thinks he's falling in love with her, how she's so amazing to him, and how he must be an idiot because he thinks she hates him. This is what he says to her, when Morgan says she looks horrible.
"No. You look like someone who has the courage to face even what breaks your heart, and I find you... beautiful."
AWWWWWW! How sweet! That whole chapter is really good. But the best part of the whole book is on the last page. Remember, this is from Morgan's point of view:

"I have something for you." He reached into his pocket and took out a clear, faceted crystal.
"Quartz?" I guessed.
He gave me a look that made it clear that was the wrong answer.
"Oh, Hunter, please, I'm too worn out for guessing games."
"Tell me what it is," he said softly.
So I tried, thinking of the stones I'd learned, trying to fit a name to it: Zircon? Danburite? Diamond? Albite? It couldn't be moonstone. Frustrated, I sent my energy into the stone, asking it to yield its name to me. The answer it gave made no sense.
I gazed up at Hunter, baffled. "What it tells me is beryl, but that can't be right. Beryl is either aquamarine or emerald, and this is--"
"Morganite," he told me. "Your name stone, another form of beryl."
"Morganite?"
"It changes color with the sunlight. At different times of day it will be white, lavender, pink, even pale blue. It's a powerful healing stone. And there's something else it can do." His hand closed around the stone. He looked at me, and his green eyes were as fathomless as the sea. "If a blood witch holds it and sends energy into it, it will reveal what is deepest in his heart."
Hunter opened his hand, and in the very center of the crystal I saw myself.
(pg. 188)

It sucks that I don't have Spellbound, #6. Cara has it, so I need to get that from her. So for now, I'll have to take a break from Sweep and read some other stuff. Oh well.

EEEEE!!! (Dark Magick)

OMHP that was a good book. Whew, let me just get that out of my system. In this volume of Sweep, Morgan has to deal not only with Dark Magick but Dark Desires... She's getting closer than ever to Cal, which may not be a good thing, her sister's getting closer to her idiot boyfriend, Bakker, and meanwhile Hunter's getting closer to Morgan.

In the end, though, Morgan does realize who the bad guys are, only she finds out JUST IN TIME... Because, as we all know, if you play with fire, you might get BURNED ALIVE. I was right about Cal, though, he was an evil, lying, son of a witch. Well, not evil, as David in the books points out, just with evil intentions. I'm off to read Awakening, Sweep #5.

BLOOD WITCH

Okay, so this is THE BEST SWEEP BOOK I HAVE READ SO FAR. Of course, I've only read three, but this one is definitely good. I forgot to tell you they start every chapter with journal entries from the main characters' Books of Shadows. In the first book, we read Cal's and Morgan's, the second, we read Cal's and Maeve's, in Blood Witch, we read Maeve's, Cal's, and Hunter's.
Yes, Hunter has a bigger role in the books now. He's supposedly trying to protect Morgan from going over to the Dark Side and helping Cal take over the Council. Because in this book, we find out Morgan is, in fact, a Woodbane, which means she's descended from the evil witch clan. I think Hunter's right, and Morgan will see that in the end.
Speaking of the end... O. M. HP. Hunter tries to kill Cal in the woods, so Morgan throws a knife at him, and Hunter goes toppling over a cliff with the knife in his neck. After she rescues Cal they check to see where Hunter went, but he's disappeared... Creepy stuff. I'm going to go read number 4 now, because I'm hooked. Don't judge me, I'm addicted to Wiccan fiction!

SWEEP

So now that I'm done with Harry Potter for the gazillionth time, I'm on to a different witchcraft series: Sweep. I read the first one, Book of Shadows,

at school back in like March. Now I borrowed Sweep 2-7 from my friend Melissa, who is currently laid up because of back surgery. (Feel better, Lisa-May!) I finished #2, which is what I came on here to post about.

The Coven
Not as good as Harry Potter, but still pretty good. There's a lot of romance between Morgan and Cal, and lots of different things going on besides magick. (Yes, these people spell magic with a "k"... I just don't get it!
So, for I while, my posts will be about Sweep. The best thing about them is they'rew short but they pack a lot of info, so you can read one and be as satisfied as if you read an 870 pg. Harry Potter book or a 700 pg. Twilight book but be done in a quick 200 pages. Now I'm on #3. Pretty intense so far...

The Tales of Beetle the Bard

A great end to the Harry Potter series. It really ties up some questions that the reader may have. Here are the five stories in it:

The Wizard and His Hopping Pot
The Fountain of Fair Fortune
The Warlock's Hairy Heart
Babbity Rabbity and Her Cackling Stump
and, of course, The Tale of the Three Brothers

It was originally translated from Ancient Runes by Hemrione Granger, complete with commentary by Albus Dumbledore and J. K. Rowling! Albus Dumbledore's little notes about the stories are freakin' hilarious. I was about to die laughing. My favorite part (it was a footnote on Albus' notes): No witch has ever tried to claim the Elder Wand. Make of that what you will.
I can't wait to see the sixth Harry Potter movie. Cara and Adrie are coming over today to make T-shirts for it, so it's gonna be AWESOME!

Did you know that J. K. Rowling initially made five handmade copies of Beetle the Bard? She passed four out to friends that helped inspire the book and she auctioned one off and donated the money to children's charities. The handmade copy is a work of art. I will post some pictures:
Beautiful!

Harry Potter, Master of Death

As you can see, I just finished Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. WORDS CANNOT DESCRIBE HOW AMAZING THAT BOOK IS. I love rereading it and going over all the details and memorable parts. Watch, I can name the Horcruxes off the top of my head... (For clarification, there are seven Horcruxes, but eight parts of Voldemort's soul, because one still rested in his body.)
THE SEVEN HORCRUXES
In the order they were destroyed:
Tom Riddle's Diary
The Ring Containing The Resurrection Stone
Salazar Slytherin's Locket
Helga Hufflepuff's Cup
Rowena Ravenclaw's Lost Diadem
Harry Potter
Nagini the Snake

Yes, I'm clearly obsessed. Now excuse me while I type up memorable parts of the book.

"He must have known I'd run out on you."
"No," Harry corrected him. "He must've known you'd always want to come back."
(pg. 391)

"I was a fool!" Percy roared, so loudly that Lupin narly dropped his photograph. "I was a pompous prat, I was a-- a--"
"Ministry-loving, family-disowning, power-hungry moron," said Fred.
Percy swallowed.
"Yes, I was!"
"Well, you can't say fairer than that," said Fred, holding out his hand to Percy.
Mrs. Weasley burst into tears. She ran forward, pushed Fred aside, and pulled Percy into a strangling hug, while he patted her on the back, his eyes on his father.
"I'm sorry, Dad," Percy said.
Mr. Weasley blinked rather stupidly, then he too hurried to hug his son.
(pg. 605 to 606)

"Hang on a moment!" said Ron sharply. "We've forgotten someone!"
"Who?" asked Hermione.
"The house-elves, they'll all be down in the kitchen, won't they?"
"You mean we should get them fighting?" asked Harry.
"No," said Ron seriously, "I mean we should tell them to get out. We don't want any more Dobbies, do we? We can't order them to die for us--"
There was a clatter as the basilisk fangs cascaded out of Hermione's arms. Running at Ron, she flung them around his neck and kissed him full on the mouth. Ron threw away the fangs and broomstick he was holding and responded with such enthusiasm he lifted Hermione off her feet.
"Is this the moment?" Harry asked weakly, and when nothing happened except that Ron and Hermione gripped each other still more firmly and swayed on the spot, he raised his voice. "OI! There's a war going on here!"
Ron and Hermione broke apart, their arms still around each other.
"I know, mate," said Ron, who looked as though he had recently been hit on the back of the head with a Bludger, "so it's now or never, isn't it?"
"Never mind that, what about the Horcrux?" Harry shouted. "D'you think you could just-- hold it in until we've got the diadem?"
"Yeah-- right-- sorry--" said Ron, and he and Hermione set about gathering up fangs, still pink in the face.
(pg. 625 to 626)

The house-elves swarmed into the entrance hall, screaming and waving carving knives and cleavers, and at their head, the locket of Regulus Black bouncing on his chest, was Kreacher, his bullfrog's voice audible even above this din: "Fight! Fight! Fight for my Master, defender of house-elves! Fight the Dark Lord, in the name of brave Regulus! Fight!"
(pg. 734)

God, best book ever. Well, one of them. There are a lot of books... But I love this book, I'm so glad I reread it again. And yes, I cried when Harry found out he was a Horcrux, because we all know what that means... Oh well, he lived, killed Voldy, repaired his wand, married Ginny, had three kids... Busy man. Now on to read Tales of Beetle the Bard!

Welcome to Nosilas's Library!

So, the reason I started this blog... To keep track of all the books I read, and keep track of how I liked them, which ones I would go back to, and so on. And yes, I am the Bookie Monster, so if you see me you will probably see a book with me. Okay, one more thing: if you do not like this blog, leave. Just leave, don't leave crud in my comments. This blog was strictly for me to reflect on what I'm reading this summer and keep track, so if you came here and got ticked because there's nothing worth reading on here to you, nobody's asking you to stay. All-righty! Moving on!

Starting off with my favorite series of all time...

Yes, this is the best series ever. And I'm rereading it just in time for the midnight premier (which, of course, I'm going to) of the Half-Blood Prince movie, which is the sixth book. I'm currently rereading The Deathly Hallows, and about halfway through it. I love these books!
The movies, however, are great too. Look at some of the posters for The Half-Blood Prince...

EEEEE look at all of them! I'm getting excited... I always reread the series in the summer when I have time to lay back and enjoy every word of J. K. Rowling's written perfection. I can't wait to see the movie! In fact, my friends and I will be making T-shirts for the event... I will try to post pictures later...
Anyway, that's what I'm reading right now, I suggest everybody in the world read these books. That's all from The Bookie Monster for now, I guess.
